I&#8217;ll cover the step-by-step process I followed and also go into some troubleshooting tips for the issues I faced along the way. At this point, it is assumed that we already have the corresponding SQL server database instance, along with some relevant component installations. However, as I am a beginner with SCCM, I still encountered many check failures and warning. Therefore, I moved this section to the beginning and listed my solutions for these issues accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mandatory components (Status showed as Failed):<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/mem\/configmgr\/core\/plan-design\/network\/prepare-windows-servers\">https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/mem\/configmgr\/core\/plan-design\/network\/prepare-windows-servers<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1098\" height=\"789\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-16.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1573\" style=\"width:766px;height:550px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Microsoft Remote Differential Compression (RDC)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">Microsoft Remote Differential Compression (RDC) library must be registered for Configuration Manager site server installation. Details at <s>https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?linkid=2186120<\/s>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/previous-versions\/windows\/desktop\/rdc\/remote-differential-compression\">https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/previous-versions\/windows\/desktop\/rdc\/remote-differential-compression<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t already installed the RDC feature, you can do so through the Server Manager:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1123\" height=\"706\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-20.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1581\" style=\"width:728px;height:458px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> SQL Server service running account<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">The logon account for the SQL Server service cannot be a local user account, NT SERVICE\\ or LOCAL SERVICE. You must configure the SQL Server service to use a valid domain account, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SYSTEM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The error message indicated that my current SQL service account is a NT SERVICE account, which is not <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>permitted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"601\" height=\"691\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-23.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1589\" style=\"width:326px;height:375px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, I executed the following steps to transition the SQL Server service account to a domain account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>SQL Server Configuration Manager<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open SQL Server Configuration Manager on the server where your SQL instance is running.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to &#8216;SQL Server Services&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Change Service Account<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Right-click on the SQL Server service you wish to change (e.g., SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)) and select &#8216;Properties&#8217;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the &#8216;Log On&#8217; tab, select &#8216;This account&#8217;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the domain account name and password. The format for the account name should be DOMAIN\\Username.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1125\" height=\"724\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-26.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1592\" style=\"width:545px;height:350px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"586\" height=\"493\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-25.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1591\" style=\"width:275px;height:231px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can do the same thing for the SQL Server Agent Service. And now it&#8217;s running under the domian account:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1015\" height=\"379\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-27.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1594\" style=\"width:593px;height:221px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Site server computer account administrative rights<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">Configuration Manager Setup requires that the site server computer has administrative rights on the SQL Server and management point computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, I thought the solution would be to give the computer account permission for the SQL database instances by assigning it the &#8216;dbcreator&#8217; server role. However, that didn&#8217;t solve the issue. It turns out the real fix was much simpler \u2013 just add the computer account to the SQL server&#8217;s local administrators group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itexperience.net\/configuration-manager-setup-requires-that-the-site-server-computer-has-administrative-rights-on-the-sql-server-and-management-point-computers-in-sccm-2012\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/itexperience.net\/configuration-manager-setup-requires-that-the-site-server-computer-has-administrative-rights-on-the-sql-server-and-management-point-computers-in-sccm-2012\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1483\" height=\"772\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-31.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1602\" style=\"width:679px;height:353px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SQL Server Tcp Port<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">Configuration Manager primary site and central administration site require SQL Server Tcp is enabled and set to <strong>Static port<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure the TCP Dynamic Ports was set as blank to fullfill the <strong>static port<\/strong> requirement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1237\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-30.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1600\" style=\"width:554px;height:458px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the modification has been made, restart the SQL Server Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">The <strong>Windows Deployment Tools<\/strong> component of Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 10 is required and must be installed before Setup can continue. It is required on primary sites and SMS Provider. It is needed by operating system deployment features of Configuration Manager. See https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=529534<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">The <strong>User State Migration Tool (USMT) <\/strong>component of Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 10 is required and must be installed before Setup can continue. It is required on central administration sites and stand-alone primary sites. It is needed by operating system deployment features of Configuration Manager. See https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=529534<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The failure of those two components will be automatically resolved upon the installation of the ADK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows-hardware\/get-started\/adk-install\">https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows-hardware\/get-started\/adk-install<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1087\" height=\"804\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1577\" style=\"width:547px;height:404px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"979\" height=\"553\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-18.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1578\" style=\"width:623px;height:351px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Windows Preinstallation Environment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">The <strong>Windows Preinstallation Environment<\/strong> component of Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 10 is required. It must be installed before Setup can continue. It is required on SMS Provider. It is needed by operating system deployment features of Configuration Manager. See https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=529534<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m still running into the abve error, even after I installed the ADK. Then I found out that I also need the Windows PE add-on, which isn&#8217;t included in the ADK and has to be downloaded separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?linkid=2243391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download the Windows PE add-on for the Windows ADK (September 2023)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1057\" height=\"742\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-22.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1587\" style=\"width:612px;height:429px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recommended components (Status showed as Warning):<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Schema extensions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">Configuration Manager Active Directory schema extensions are not required for site server installation, but are recommended to fully support the use of all Configuration Manager features. For more information about the advantages of extending the schema extensions, see the Configuration Manager product documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">You only need to extend the Active Directory Schema if you haven&#8217;t previously installed SCCM in your domain. If you&#8217;re already using SCCM 2007 and are planning to migrate, you can skip this step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, make sure you&#8217;re logged into a server with an account that belongs to the &#8216;<strong>Schema Admins<\/strong>&#8216; security group. Then, from the SCCM ISO package, execute the following file: <code>.\\SMSSETUP\\BIN\\X64\\extadsch.exe<\/code>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1263\" height=\"258\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-33.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1608\" style=\"width:601px;height:122px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">After running the schema extension, check the results by opening the Extadsch.log file, which you&#8217;ll find at the root of the system drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Verify site server permissions to publish the Active Directory<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">The site server might be unable to publish to Active Directory. The computer account for the site server must have Full Control permissions to the <strong>System Management<\/strong> container in its Active Directory domain. You can ignore this warning if you have manually verified these permissions. For more information about your options to configure required permissions, see https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/p\/?LinkId=233190.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I used the instructions from the following blog to set up the <strong>System Management<\/strong> container and gave our main SCCM computer the necessary permissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prajwaldesai.com\/installing-prerequisites-for-configuration-manager\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.prajwaldesai.com\/installing-prerequisites-for-configuration-manager\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>System Management<\/strong> container was created under the default naming context:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1717\" height=\"766\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-34.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1616\" style=\"width:752px;height:335px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Give it <strong>Full Control<\/strong> permissions, and in the advanced settings, make sure to select &#8220;<strong>This object and all descendant objects<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1768\" height=\"787\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-35.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1617\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SQL Server process memory allocation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\">Configuration Manager requires SQL Server to reserve a minimum of 8 gigabytes (GB) of memory for the central administration site and primary site and a minimum of 4 gigabytes (GB) for the secondary site. This memory is reserved by using the Minimum server memory setting under Server Memory Options and is configured by using SQL Server Management Studio. For more information about how to set a fixed amount of memory, see https:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/p\/?LinkId=233759.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"721\" height=\"753\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-45.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1649\" style=\"width:352px;height:367px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IIS service running<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\"><strong>Internet Information Services (IIS)<\/strong> is required for some site system roles. You have selected to install a site system role that requires IIS. Install IIS on the site system to continue setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1150\" height=\"829\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ruianding.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/image-32.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1606\" style=\"width:693px;height:499px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BITS Installed \/ Enabled<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background has-small-font-size\"><strong>Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)<\/strong> is required for the management point and distribution point site system roles. BITS is not installed, IIS 6 WMI compatibility component for IIS7 is not installed on this computer or the remote IIS host, or Setup was unable to verify remote IIS settings because IIS common components were not installed on the site server computer.
